I’m not one for trends. In fact, there are very few pieces in my wardrobe that can actually be labelled “trendy”. Most of my wardrobe consists of timeless items that I continue to wear for years on end, without anybody realising that I’m just recycling clothes.
But every now and again, there is one item that crops up and forces me to look outside my personal fashion bubble. This past year-and-a-half, it was the off-shoulder tops! They became such a rage that they were all I could see on my Instagram feed. It is safe to say that they’ve transcended from the seasonal-item status to that of a timeless must-have.
Now, after having images and styles of the cold-shoulder trend being shoved in my direction in stores and on social media for over two years, I am definitely ready for something new. Don’t get me wrong, I love these flirty tops. But I am need of a revamp and it is during one of my research sessions that I chanced upon this. If you, like me, are looking for a way to stand out this summer, there’s another trend that is coming to replace the cold-shoulder bandwagon. It is time to embrace the tie-front tops.
You saw these on Dimple Kapadia in Bobby, and then again on Kajol in DDLJ (Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye), and now over two decades later, they again making a comeback. And for all the right reasons. The tie-front tops are not only versatile but also unexpected, making them perfect for the season. You can dress them down with a pair of classic skinny jeans or pair them with a skirt for a more bohemian vibe. You can even get away with wearing these to work! And the best part? They flatter almost every body type.
While brands like Forever 21, H&M, and even SheIn have come up with various tie-front top designs, and some of them are pretty rad, you can DIY this style by just tying up a shirt you already own. That’s what I’ve done with this look, pretty much. I paired an orange men’s shirt (tied up in the front) with a printed, boho-style skirt, and kolhapuris. For the accessories, I have a pair of sunglasses and silver-stone earrings. I actually really like how this turned out and I am already shopping online for more tie-front tops as I post this blog.
What do you think of the look? If you’ve worn front-tie tops, share links to your pictures on Instagram here in the comments. I would love to check them out.
Until next time!
