Layering is such an inherently winter-y concept, that up until recently, I couldn’t even fathom the idea of doing it during the summer months. Especially in Delhi’s heat! But a friend of mine sort of changed that perception and I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try it.
Lo behold, I ended up with this look. And once I wore it out, I realised how much I loved it! Not just because it looked great, but also because of the practicality – bye bye sweat stains :p.
So after trying it out a couple of times, I figured layering in summers was actually a pretty awesome concept. And since the hot weather is not going anywhere soon, here are a few tips for you guys if you want to try wearing your summer clothes in layers.
- Keep the fabrics light, and flowy
Choose natural fabrics that are light and airy. This will keep your outfit breathable despite the layers. Make sure you avoid synthetic fabrics and thick ones as that can trap sweat and make you uncomfortable and can become a breeding ground for infections.
- Pick complementing colours
Colours make all the difference in summer months. Too bright and you’ll just be radiating light and heat (not something people want); too dull and you’ll end up looking drab. Go for pastels and toned down versions of bright shades.
- Keep accessories to a minimum
I don’t know about you guys, but I really that feeling when sweat collects under a necklace or a bracelet. That is why I like to keep my accessories during summers to a minimum – and more often than not I choose earrings. Depending on the ocassion, choose a pair of complementing earrings and you’re good to go.
- Comfort is key
No matter what you wear, comfort is key. Make sure that all of the individual pieces in the outfit are super comfortable and you don’t have certain elements that you don’t like. Make sure your bottoms and your top fit right and make sure that the outermost layer is loose enough to give you enough breathing space.
